The Problem
Did you know that:
44% of EU citizens lack basic digital skills. This includes tasks that help keep people safe online like managing and securing account usernames and passwords, and protecting personal data online.
Why is this? Why do older people feel ignored and unequipped in modern societies which are underpinned by a growing number of digital nuts and bolts?
The answer is both troubling and simple. They’re simply not prioritised.
So what happens if you’re an active and capable older adult who just needs a bit of help? Or if you’re experiencing normal and expected levels of cognitive decline due to the natural aging process and need a little extra help? Or if you’re living with a condition like dementia and require full-time care? What happens in all three cases is usually the same thing. Someone has to hand over all their digital information to someone else which results in a loss of control and privacy, in feeling a loss of autonomy and in increased risks of frauds.
This is not good enough and this is the reason we have created Simeon.
The Solution
Not everyone feels confident navigating the online world. Simeon ensures no one is left behind.
Simeon helps older folks get the support they need, on their own terms. Our Digital Essentials Assistant helps seniors manage their online accounts and other sensitive information while they can, for as long as they can. When they feel like they need more assistance, Simeon users can share access with someone they trust: Simeon, not only, provides a seamless, user-friendly app but embeds unique assistance capability available on-demand as needed.
Designed for You and Your Relationships
Use Case
Let’s take Paul and Lola here.
On one hand we’ve got Paul. He is getting older and although he used to be comfortable navigating online, he is now feeling overwhelmed due to password complexities, additional codes required and now authenticator apps combined with the fear of being hacked. Although he is frustrated to loose his autonomy, Paul regularly asks her daughter Lola for help.
On the other end, Lola wants to make sure her dad doesn’t get scammed or gets into financial distress because of mistakes he might make while dealing with his online accounts so she wants to help but she is also managing everyone else’s life and it’s adding to her mental load.
Who We are
With over 20 years in cybersecurity and identity, we've seen firsthand how digital tools can often exclude vulnerable populations. More specifically, managing multiple online accounts and passwords, navigating complex websites, and understanding evolving technology can be daunting tasks. And with the rise of new technologies, it’s only going to get worse. This digital divide limits access to essential services, social connections, and information, and leads to increased financial risks.
That’s why we, Julien and Audrey, founded Simeon—to make the digital world more accessible, starting with seniors and caregivers.
We believe essential online services shouldn’t be a privilege reserved for the tech-savvy. It should be simple, inclusive, and adaptable to the needs of all individuals, especially our elders.
As our population ages, millions are being left behind, placing additional burdens on their loved ones. Simeon bridges the digital divide by focusing on relationships and fostering dignity, confidence, and trust in every interaction.
Timeline
In September 2023, we received funding from a European Union program to explore ways to make some of the latest technologies more accessible.
We built a prototype and conducted around 40 interviews across various industries, levels of experience, and digital literacy. Strong from this market analysis, our focus shifted to vulnerable populations and seniors.
We saw a gap: existing solutions aren’t designed for seniors and their caregivers, who need practical, easy-to-use tools now, not in 3 to 5 years.
We are currently finalising our first version of the product and looking to early-access launch in August.
